Finding Peace in difficult times
The Serenity PrayerGod grant me the serenityto accept the things I cannot change;courage to change the things I can;and wisdom to know the difference.Living one day at a time;Enjoying one moment at a time;Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;Taking, as He did, this sinful worldas it is, not as I would have it;Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremelyhappy with Him forever in the next.AmenPeace comes to us only when we face the fact that there are things that we cannot change. They will not change if we worry. They will not change if we act out in crazy ways. They will not change if we get very depressed.Everything in the past is something that you cannot change. It is in hard concrete. The past is an unchanging rock. Our perspective on the past may change but the past itself cannot. It must be accepted and adopted into our lives. So everything that will not change and cannot change, that brings me pain, I need to release to God. All these defeats and disasters I must let HIM carry for me. To trust that God will ultimately bring some good out of these events and circumstances only comes as we recognize they are out of our control and yet not out of HIS control. Our peace comes when we let God hold the unchangeable things in our life for us and then focus on those things where we may have the most positive impact.Ask the Lord to show you what can and cannot be changed. Then to let go of the unchangeable realities and focus on those where you can still have a positive impact. This is the sanest way to live life “East of Eden”.
