Historical Reflection on Singleness
ØMost marriages in history were arranged marriages and therefore singleness was rare.   Singleness many times came for the first time at the death of the spouse. ØCourting was a type of half/way between arranged marriages and still demanded the approval of parents. Ø55% of marriages today globally are arranged marriages (4% divorce compared with 40% for marriages based on dating) ØDating as we know it there began in the “Roaring Twenties” and is still a social experiment.  Ø31% are single, 7% are living together Ø
