Prayer For Our Times

Mat 22:36-40 NLT] 36 "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" 37 Jesus replied, "'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."

LORD, YOU know that the lives of black people matter greatly to YOU for they are made in YOUR image and many of them have trusted in YOU as their LORD and SAVIOR, making them YOUR redeemed people.   To curse them is to curse YOU, since they bear YOUR image and likeness.

So now LORD help them for they have suffered greatly in this nation  having been made slaves, abused, murdered not given equal status under the law even after being freed from slavery and struggle even now being hated by some for the color of their skin and viewed with prejudice in which they are not accepted as equal with other people.

Comfort the family and friends of black people who have loss loved ones due to the excessive force use by some police officers. Bring them YOUR help in their grief. Lord have mercy on them.

Forgive our nation LORD for not loving and respecting them as YOU have loved them.   Forgive us our cruelty, prejudice, abuse, and insensitivity to their struggle and pain.

Lord have mercy

LORD, YOU know that the lives of police officers matter greatly for YOU have made them in YOUR image and many of them trust in YOU as LORD and SAVIOR.

YOU have by YOUR providence allowed them the honor and responsibility  to protect the innocent and bring to justice those who have broken the laws of this nation.  YOU have given them "the sword" to use to establish justice and keep people from hurting and abusing others.

Thank you LORD for police officers who have accepted YOUR calling to be protectors of justice in just ways and serving all the citizens of this nation for the common good of all.

Many of them have died protecting the innocent or attempting to capture those suspected of being criminals.  Lord have mercy and comfort all their families of the brave men and women who gave their lives for the common good of their communities.

Some police officers have abused the power YOU gave them for justice and treated people in cruel ways and even murdered them unjustly.  This they did as representatives of the government YOU ordained to rule.  LORD have mercy.

They betrayed the trust that YOU gave to them to be protectors of justice for all citizens and to serve the common good.  They have not treated those YOU called them to serve with love and respect but cursed them and hated them instead.  Those who did such things failed to act for the common good.  Lord have mercy.

Bring them now to repentance.  Let those who YOU have raised up in the government to watch over the officers of the law, bring the guilty police officers to justice and suffer proper consequences for their unjust and illegal activities.

Allow the civil workers YOU have ordained now  work to oversee the calling of being a police officer in such a way to try to avoid injustice happening again in the future.

Police officers LORD have suffered prejudice and hatred just for being police officers.

Most of the time they serve other citizens without being honored as YOUR servants of justice.  They have suffered cursing, ridicule, and shame for wearing their uniform representing the office YOU have ordained them to be in.

Help this abuse not harden their hearts towards those they serve.  Give them strength to endure this mistreatment and not return evil for evil.

Forgive us as a nation for not honoring and respecting faithful police officers who have strived in excellence to serve as we should.

Forgive us for allowing some to abuse their power and commit horrible crimes as officers of the law without facing punishment or creating effective systems to keep such horrible crimes from happening.

Forgive us for not striving to always have trustworthy people be our police officers and not terminating from employment all those who betrayed YOUR trust and our trust as a nation that they would strive to do act justly in every action and word they took as public servants.

Grant us as a nation the gift of repentance and work to find a better way to establish a just and free society for all our citizens, regardless of the color of their skin or economic status.

LORD, YOU established our Republic that we might be an example of justice, mercy, and humility to all nations.

Help us regain the original vision of our Republic and even improve upon it making it more consistent with its founding principles of providing freedom and  justice for all people regardless of the color of their skin, their wealth, or their creed.   Save the Republic by restoring its character.

Send to our Republic and all nations an intense spiritual revival raising up out of the ashes of despair a sincere faith in YOU as SAVIOR and KING LORD Jesus.

Let repentance now replace sin, apathy, and selfishness.  Humble us LORD and turn us from our wicked ways.

Have mercy LORD and send true revival to us least we perish as a nation.

Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.  Amen
