Blended families area family that includes children of a previous marriage of one spouse or both. This may be caused because of the death of one of the parents, divorce, or desertion of a biological parent of the children. About 16% of all the children in the United States live in “blended families.”
The skills needed for people to manage and thrive in a blended family are unique and more difficult than being married in a non-blended family more of the time. It is vital that couples and children know how to handle and manage this unique social experience in order to avoid conflict, frustration, anger, and abuse in the home.
